The Summer Institute for International Disaster Relief and SVETLINA 2012 will be held at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex in Fort Pierce Florida and at the Croix des Bouquets Training Center in Port au Prince Haiti over a three week period.


The mission this year will be about joint training on community emergency preparedness, public health, and basic search and rescue techniques as taught by certified instructors from the Indian River State College Emergency Management, Fire Science, and Health Sciences programs.


Qualifying classes for all U.S. personnel will be held in the first week at Indian River State College. After establishing baseline competencies the US team will then depart from Fort Lauderdale to train young Haitians for two weeks on community preparedness in conjunction with instructors from Haiti.


Participants are responsible for the program fee  of US$1,500 which includes round-trip airfare from Fort Lauderdale to Port au Prince. Participants must also purchase travel insurance, emergency medical insurance, and update all vaccinations prior to departure.
